The Mining Project

The Mining Project is a growing accumulation of photographs from the Victor and Cripple Creek, Colorado, mining areas.  Depleted ore in mines, labor strife and the exodus of miners during World War I caused a steep decline in the city’s economy, from which it has never recovered. Buildings from the 1890’s through the turn of the century, still contain clues of the life that happened within them. Maybe it’s pine trees painted on a collapsing fireplace or catalog pages displaying the latest in women’s dresses, but whatever it is, it was new at one time to someone…
